Weight Loss Update!

I thought I better do a quick weight loss update since it has been quite awhile since my last one! Unfortunately I do not have much by way of progress to report as the holiday season was not overly kind to my waistline. Thats seems to be the story every year when it comes to the month of December for me.

I begrudgingly stood on the scale on Monday January 4th to assess the damage and I had gained 6 pounds! Ugh. I mean I wasn’t overly surprised as my jeans were definitely fitting quite a bit tighter than they had been at the end of November but always still disappointing nevertheless.

So essentially that means I had regained everything I had lost already on this journey (I obviously need a much better strategy for December 2016!). Anyway moving forward and as of January 4th I have been back on track in terms of my eating. My fitness I had back on track as of December 26th thanks to the FitBit my husband got me for Christmas. I already feel much better, more energetic and lighter again. I did weigh myself on  January 15th to see if I was making any progress and I was down 3.5 lbs. My hope is that by the end of January all of the holiday weight gain will be gone and things will just keep progressing on a downward trend again from there!

Anyway I am sorry I don’t have any real progress to report this time but I wanted to let you know that I have not at all given up or changed my plan…December just got in the way a little bit! 🙂

I hope you all got through the holiday feasting better than I did! I will do an update again at the end of January or early February.

My Weight loss Journey: Stats Update #1



Hi guys! I finally have stats update #1 for you. It has been 3 weeks since I posted my starting weight and measurements and the time has gone by really quickly for me. So without further delay here they are:

Original Stats From: November 6, 2015

New Stats From: November 27, 2015

3 weeks has gone by already!


Height: 5 feet 7 Inches

Obviously this isn’t going to change! 🙂


Previous Weight: 180 pounds

New Weight: 175 pounds

Down 5 pounds


Previous Waist: 34.5 inches

New Waist: 33 inches

Down 1.5 inches


Previous Hips: 44 inches

New Hips: 43 inches

Down 1 inch


Previous Bust: 39 inches

New Bust: 38.5 inches

Down 0.5 inches


I am very happy with my progress so far as I really feel like this is the easiest 5 pounds I have ever lost. I also did not have an expectation that this was going to be some quick fix lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks type of thing. I want this to be a new way of life for me and something I can stick to. If I can achieve slow and steady weight loss while feeling perfectly content with how I get to eat everyday then I have no reason to complain. On a side note I was also super lazy these last 3 weeks and honestly didn’t get any exercise in at all other than chasing my little one around. So starting Monday I am really going to try to get myself on some sort of regular fitness routine.

What I am thinking of doing is a higher intensity, 20 minute or so fitness video, 5 days a week. I am going to use a different video each day for every 5 day cycle just to keep things varied and interesting. I plan to use videos from a variety of my favourite Youtube fitness gurus because they are effective, plentiful and best of all free! I hope to incorporate strength training and cardio and they will all be routines I can do at home in my living room using my own body weight or free weights that I already own. I will try to remember to put up blog posts regularly to let you know which videos I am really enjoying and how I am doing with reaching my goal of working out 5 days a week. In all honesty however, I am really trying to keep up an attitude where I do not beat myself up for missing a workout here and there. Life is to short for that!

In terms of my eating and sticking to the Starch Solution I have been doing pretty well. Like I said I feel like this is the easiest 5 pounds I have ever lost and it is all because I have been sticking to my high carb, low fat, plant based diet at least 90% of the time. I never feel like I am going hungry, I never feel deprived and I don’t feel like I am “dieting” to lose weight. I get to eat foods that I love and I get to eat them whenever I feel hungry and until I am satiated.

Some of the other benefits I have noticed so far from this way of eating have been drastically increased energy levels, clearer skin and the eczema which I have on my legs calming WAY down. I have suffered from chronic crazy itchy legs from eczema for about 13 years, often to a point where it effects how I sleep, and right now it isn’t bothering me much at all. I really hope that eventually I might see it go away almost if not completely!

Anyway I will leave it at that for now and if you have any questions just ask! I will try to get up a post very soon with some good detail about my go to meals at the moment. My Weight Loss Journey: Starting Stats and Before Pictures

As embarrassing as this is going to be for me to put out there I know how important it is to document where you are starting from at the beginning of any weight loss journey. So here we go…

I am pretty confident I have what they would call a pear shape! 🙂

As of right now I do not plan on weighing myself that often, maybe once a month, but I will probably check my measurements every 2 weeks. I will post updates on those stats when I do check up on them.

What I will be posting extremely frequently is what I am eating and cooking, my go to recipes, my fitness routines, and how I am feeling and making out in general along the way. I will try to post pictures of what I am eating on my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts daily so be sure to check those out regularly if you are interested.



Like many others out there I to am on a weight loss journey…

I have struggled with my weight for the majority of my life and have tried numerous diets and exercise programs in an attempt to get and keep enough of the weight off to be healthier and to feel comfortable in my own skin. For the most part in the few years prior to having my daughter I had managed to keep my weight at a level where I was reasonably happy with it (ideally could still stand to lose a few pounds but not feeling totally disgusted with myself). I had figured out a lifestyle that worked for me at the time and that I could for the most part stick to and maintain. However in the past year and a half since my daughter was born I have struggled greatly to get my weight back under control.

When I got pregnant I was already about 7 pounds heavier than where I would have preferred to be and by the end of my second trimester I was about 15 pounds up from my pre-pregnancy weight. I was very careful to eat healthy and properly during my pregnancy because I didn’t want to gain anymore weight than was recommended by my doctor if possible. I knew what a struggle it would be to lose that weight so I was pretty terrified of letting it get out of control. Little did I know that would end up being the least of my worries for quite some time.

To keep on topic and to keep a very long story short for now (I will tell this story and it’s aftermath in detail in the near future), my health severely and quickly deteriorated at the end of my second trimester and my daughter had to be delivered 3 months early (at only 27 weeks). We both almost lost our lives and spent a lot of time in the hospital. The year that followed was extremely scary and stressful, not only because of our health concerns, but also due to other difficult life events piled on top of what we were already dealing with.

I know exactly why I gain weight (to much of the wrong food and not enough exercise) and I also know how to lose it (stop over indulging and move my body). Simple formula on paper but I am a stress eater and while fighting the battles I had to face in the past year and a half my motivation to get that weight off and clean up my diet just wasn’t there. I made MANY attempts to get things back on track but I just kept failing.

I think I am finally now in a place that I am ready to get this part of my life back under control. One thing that has been in the back of my mind since my long stay in the hospital is how so severely unhealthy many of the patients were I saw around the hospital and a lot of that bad health had to of been due to complications from being overweight and living unhealthy lifestyles. Being in that environment really made me strong in my resolve that I need to eat healthier and be healthier in my life. I want to be the best that I can be for my daughter and to set a good example for her so she doesn’t have to struggle with her weight as much as I did growing up and in my adult life.

So as of today I am at a place where I would like to lose at least 20 pounds. As a way to keep me motivated and on track I will try to chronicle as much as possible on the blog my progress and what I am doing to reach my goals. My research on healthy eating in the last year and a half have really made me rethink the way I have been eating in the past (even what I considered as healthy) so this will be an interesting and exciting journey!
